As 2024 winds to a close, the Private Land Conservation Matters program is also wrapping up. Our final report to LandcareNSW has been submitted and we will be working to finalise the contract with MidCoastCouncil over the coming days. This unique combination of funding support from both the Biodiversity Conservation Trust and MidCoast Council has enabled us to complete a really comprehensive program in 2023/2024, with 18 events delivered to over 600 landholders in the MidCoast district. We have added an additional 27 landowners to the Land for Wildlife program, which now protects over 5000 ha of habitat for our unique flora and fauna.
We have learnt about a diverse range of topics related to enhancing conservation values on our land, and are looking forward to extending the program in 2025. At this stage, we have an extension of the program until June 30th 2025, so keep your eyes peeled for news about more opportunities to learn about biodiversity conservation.
Thanks to everyone who has supported the program and to all those wonderful conservation champions who are protecting biodiversity on their property every day. With 70% of all land in NSW being in private ownership, Private Land Conservation is an extremely important mechanism for securing the future of our unique flora and fauna.
I’ll be working over the summer break and encourage you to consider signing up for the Land for Wildlife program if you would like to explore private land conservation options. You only need 0.5Ha of habitat to be eligible for the program, by registering, you have access to a free site inspection and property assessment report with one of our qualified staff.
For more information, head over to our website and fill out the Expression of Interest form at the bottom of this page.
If you are looking for something to fill your days over the summer period, take a look at the Biodiversity Conservation Trust website where you can register in their comprehensive e-learning course. This program is aimed to raise knowledge and capacity around biodiversity conservation management for landholders. It is free and all of the modules are online, so you don’t have to leave the house to complete the course.
I look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.
Happy Holidays!
